What attracted you to working in the travel industry, specifically the sport travel sector? Tell us a bit about your career journey to Edusport.

I started travelling right after school and fell in love with the idea of exploring new destinations. I decided to do a Travel & Tourism Diploma to ensure that I had the know-how to work in the travel industry. I worked for a small tour operator for a short period before joining an international conference organiser where I worked for five years. This is where I was first exposed to major events and massive group movements. With my experience in working on the first major international conferences in South Africa, this was the perfect platform to join Edusport and work on the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup. Since 2002 I have been at Edusport and have enjoyed every opportunity that has come my way.

What are some of the highlights from your career in sport travel, at Edusport?

Visiting other countries is certainly an amazing experience. Seeing people’s dreams come true when they are sitting at an international sporting event is truly rewarding, and of course the biggest highlight has been the fact that I have travelled around the world to major international sporting events such as Rugby & Cricket World Cups.

In 2004 I was also fortunate to have had the opportunity to work in the Cricket World Cup office in the West Indies for three months where the 2007 travel programme was set up for the Cricket World Cup.

My Top 3 Sport Events

Sporting events bring people together and seeing South African fans all dressed up, having fun and cheering their team on is truly fantastic. The Cricket and Rugby World Cups are my favourite events because the South African teams always keep me sitting on the edge of my seat. I would recommend the Cricket, Rugby and FIFA World Cup™ tournaments to anyone who wants to say ‘been there done that’.

MY TOP TRAVEL TIP

Research your destination, study maps and explore. You can get so much out of a place if you have an understanding of your surroundings and places to see. Always be savvy!
