Cervinia
10 – 17 December 2011
The resort town of Cervinia lies amidst the breathtaking scenery of the Aosta Valley and at 6, 765 feet, is one of the highest resorts in the Italian Alps. The resort is dominated by the mighty Matterhorn and surrounded by some of Europe’s grandest peaks. No matter where you are in Cervinia, the Matterhorn (or Il Cervino) provides a spectacular backdrop. The centre of Cervinia is closed to coaches and access to central hotels on arrival and departure day is on foot, in some cases carrying luggage.
The combination of plentiful sunshine, together with excellent snow conditions and a truly incredible range of slopes, served by an extensive network of lifts, has created a mountain paradise for skiers. Add to this, some great après ski and a lively international atmosphere, not to mention the chance to ski Valtournenche and across the Swiss border into Zermatt, and it’s no wonder that Cervinia has become one of Italy’s top ski centres. The skiing in Cervinia is enjoyable and forgiving, a haven for the cruising intermediate. It also has the best snowfall in Italy, anointing the glacier with over 1,000 centimeters/394 inches of fresh powder. The resort is linked by lift to Valtournenche and Zermatt, which have more for the expert—and there is summer skiing, with a board park on the glacier.
