Top Attractions in Russia

To fully explore Russia, you would need more than one trip (perhaps even more than one lifetime) to fully appreciate the depth and breadth of the world’s largest country. However, some key destinations, activities, and sights are a must for first-time visitors, especially those attending the FIFA 2018 World Cup Russia™.

  • Red Square: Set at the very heart of Moscow and the site of St Basil’s Cathedral, Red Square never ceases to inspire.
  • The Winter Palace/The Hermitage: This museum in Saint Petersburg features an enormous collection of art and antiquities amassed by Russia’s wealthy tsars (particularly by its founder, Catherine the Great).
  • Tretyakov Gallery: One of Russia’s greatest museums, this is probably the one to choose if you only want to visit only one museum in Moscow. In contrast to the worldwide collection of the Pushkin Museum, the Tretyakov features mostly a collection of Russian art.
  • Natural Attractions: Russia is blessed with many natural and historical wonders. The country contains 23 UNESCO World Heritage sites, 40 UNESCO Biosphere reserves, 40 national parks and 101 nature reserves.
